Since Ryker was four weeks old, he has been sleeping for about six hours straight during the night. We have tried to push him longer, but our attempts have failed each time. So last night, we put him to bed at the usual 7:30pm; believing he would just wake up in about six hours. Boy, were we wrong. Ryker ended up sleeping for ten hours! This is a miracle beyond miracles! I kept waking up every few hours to see if he was OK... because really, I was scared that something might have happened to him! Each time I woke up, he was fast asleep and snoring like usual. The last time I woke up was at 5:30am. Ryker was tossing and turning and I just knew that he was about to burst out crying in hunger. Of course he did, but luckily his bottle was ready at just about that time.
We are so proud of our little guy! He is growing so much. We have discussed recently that in just the past few days, it feels like Ryker has become much more of a 'little boy.' We feel that he is just progressing so fast! This scares us; but we are also very delighted at the same time. Along with him growing, he is also crying much less. However, he does have little outbursts of personality when he wants too, though.

It Happened
Something amazing happened last night.
Something that we have been anticipating for quite some time now.
Something that gives us hope for the future.
Ryker slept for six hours.
[Even in his very own crib!]
[Even in his very own crib!]
Then, he slept for four more hours after he was fed!
We never thought this day would come; seeing that he was only going about three hours between feedings up until the night before last.
We have been trying very hard to keep him up all day long, but our efforts have never gotten him to sleep through his nights...
...Until last night!
We just had to document this momentous occasion.
And even though I am awake practically every hour or less checking on him, [I do worry a lot] it makes me so happy to know that he can sleep that long during the night.
[He loves, loves, loves looking over our shoulders!]
Good job little guy.
Hopefully you will be able to sleep that well again tonight!

He is Getting Too Comfortable
Ryker is one spoiled little fella.
He is our first child.
He is the first grandson on both sides.
He is the first great-grandson on one side.
He is always being held, cuddled with, and played with.
Not to mention, for the past three and a half weeks, he has been sleeping in our bed.
To begin the explanation for this, Austin has not had to go to his early-morning shifts at UPS since Ryker has been born. He gets FMLA through this wonderful company.
So, to ease my nighttime worries of SIDS, Austin has been staying up until the wee-hours of the morning making sure Ryker is sleeping peacefully. This allows me to get some sleep of my own.
Austin studies, reads, and works on homework.
Is he not the best husband in the world for doing this???
Anyways, during these wee-hours of the night/morning, Ryker sleeps in our bed.
This has been a terribly terrible mistake.
Don't get me wrong, we absolutely love having our son so close to us.
Snuggling is the best with our little guy!
But, Ryker will not sleep in his crib when it is time for Daddy to go to sleep.
He cries and cries and cries some more until we move him back to our big bed.
So, this leaves me up for the rest of the early morning.
This habit needs to end so he won't be wanting to sleep in our bed forever! :]

Doesn't he look too comfortable?
No more sleeping in bed next to Mommy while she is doing her homework during the day.
[Even though she loves it sooo much.]
We all learn from our mistakes, right? Right.
Tonight, he is sleeping in his bed.
